Thanksgiving is almost upon us. The one day of the year that we stop to consider all we are thankful for. Each of us makes the choice every day to either acknowledge or ignore the world around us. Personally, I’m just as guilty as anyone of not reflecting on a more regular basis. Work, home, bills, school, family, friends, war, sickness…life…we either allow it to consume us or strive to find balance.
I do believe that part of our journey involves trying to become the best person we can. It’s a lifelong process, an evolution. Sometimes it feels as though we are guided along a path and other times it’s more like stumbling along in the dark. Recently I’ve had one of those guided moments which makes me want to be reflective about where I am on my own journey. So I’m not waiting for the third Thursday of November to give thanks.
I am thankful to have loving family and friends, near and far, who can look beyond the lapses between calls and visits and pick up exactly where we left off.
I am thankful for those people who have literally known me forever – known and accepted and loved each version of me without reservation or condition.
I am thankful to have found a job where I am valued for the contributions that I make. What I do isn’t going to change the world but I make a difference here.
I am thankful for the abundances in my life.
I am thankful for the sacrifices others have made for me.
I am thankful each time I hear from SFC and know that he’s ok.
I am thankful for the life I’ve led, not just for the easy days but the hard ones too.
I am thankful for the wisdom gained from learning from my mistakes.
I am thankful for the power of the words ‘I’m sorry’ and for the forgiveness of others.
I am thankful for the chance to make each day better than the one before.
