Can You Hear Me Now?

21 Sep

No gnus is good gnus. At least that’s what I tell myself. I haven’t heard much from overseas. So far the only call has been from Kuwait, nothing since he arrived at his base. The internet connection is unstable which has led to dropped IM chats. Details of what he’s doing have been few but I did get this:

This trip was uneventful. Previous trip one of the folks we escort got hit. I jumped out and treated him (suspected broken arm) and then put him on a chopper. Was ready to chase down the baddies but none to be found.

So when I’m at work thinking that I’m having a crappy day, I remind myself that my worst day here doesn’t even compare to a good day there – much less a bad one.

I was going to post the stuff above yesterday but before I could sneak that into my work day, my cell phone rang with a very long distance call from my favorite Sgt First Class. Here’s an update:

When he’s not out on mission he’s usually doing administrative work – plans, reports, etc. The unit that they came to relieve has left so now they are completely running the missions. The base, while not huge, is really spread out. To get anyplace, like the chow hall or phone tent, he has to take a shuttle. I guess I’ll cut him some slack on the calling thing since it’s not like he has a phone right there in his quarters.

There’s never enough time to remember everything you want to talk about. But he sounded good and it was a relief to hear from him.
